1942年2月3日、山口県宇部市の長生炭鉱で水没事故が発生し、183名が犠牲となった。そのうち136名は朝鮮人鉱夫だった。坑道はコンクリートで封鎖され、犠牲者がいたという真実は80年以上語られることはなかった——これは実際に起きた出来事である。
本作品はこの史実に着想を得た創作作品である。2025年、ダイバーのアキラとク・ソヨンが遺骨捜索のために潜水する。物語は過去と現在を行き来し、過酷な労働を強いられ坑道に閉じ込められた鉱夫たちと、彼らの痕跡を追うダイバーたちの姿が交差する。
劇中の登場人物・台詞・出来事は、史実をもとにしつつも上演にあたって再構成されたものである。
On February 3, 1942, a flooding accident occurred at the Chosei Coal Mine in Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, claiming 183 lives. Of those, 136 were Korean miners. The mine shaft was sealed with concrete, and the truth that victims had remained there went untold for more than eighty years—this is a real historical event.
This work is a fictional piece inspired by that historical fact. In 2025, a diver named Akira and Ku Soyeon descend into the water in search of the victims’ remains. Moving back and forth between past and present, the story interweaves the lives of miners who were forced into harsh labor and trapped in the shaft with those of the divers tracing the remains of their lives.
Although based on historical fact, the characters, dialogue, and events in the play have been restructured for theatrical presentation.
