「そういえば、ここに穴を開けた人がいて──」　

2009年の開館から17年。座・高円寺は、東日本大震災もコロナ禍も経験してきました。そして2026年4月、世界情勢が複雑に揺れるなか、この劇場は初めての指定管理者交代を迎えました。ここに堆積した数多くの記憶や出来事は、劇場、そしてここに関わる／関わった人々を介して、消えることなく存在し続けます。「劇場の記憶」の継承と、「記憶の継承」の装置としての劇場。

本作は出演者として、「劇場創造アカデミー」の修了生・在学生や、普段はカフェや事務所で働く、聴者・ろう者のスタッフらが登場します。

座・高円寺に関わる人々の記憶とともに巡り、ずらし、いま・ここをひとたび「空洞」にしてみる。アーティスト・梅田哲也による新作ツアー型演劇です。

また本作では、ロビーにおけるインスタレーションとして、キッズスペースやシルクスクリーン工房などを設け、人々が交差し出入りできる空間をひらきます。ツアーの前後で、どうぞお気軽にご利用ください。

“Once, someone made a hole here ──”

Seventeen years have passed since Za-Koenji opened its doors in 2009. In that time, the theater has witnessed the Great East Japan Earthquake and the global pandemic.

Now, in April 2026, amidst a complex and shifting global landscape, the theater undergoes its first change of designated manager.

The countless memories and events layered within these walls endure, preserved through the theater and the lives woven into its story—both past and present.

The theater as an echo for “theatrical memory”—a living site for its inheritance.

The cast includes graduates and current students of the Creative Theatre Academy and hearing and Deaf staff who usually work in the café and office.

Journeying alongside the people of Za-Koenji and their memories, we shift our perspective to momentarily transform the ‘here and now’ into a ku-do. A new tour-style production by artist Tetsuya Umeda.

◯ステートメント

演劇ってなんでしょう。今回「演劇やりませんか」と声をかけられたとき、まず最初に浮かんだのは「みんなでつくるもの」という言葉でした。2020年のパンデミック下、Bunkamuraのシアターコクーンで《プレイタイム》という作品をやっていたときに、キャストの一人が口にした言葉です。そもそも「みんな」ってどういうことですか。

開館から17年間、「座・高円寺」という劇場に人はどのように関わり、何を媒介してきたか。積み重ねられてきた時間や出来事は、どのように共有され、どう受け渡されていくのか。たくさんの人に話を聞いている途中ですが、あんなことこんなこと、まだまだ知らないことばっかりです。運営体制が新しく変わり、建物も2年後のリニューアルを控えたタイミングで、あらためて、劇場ってなんだろう、演劇ってなんだろう、という根本的な問いから向き合ってみている日々です。

今と今以外、こことここ以外、どれも同じひとつの場所に放り投げてから、穴をあけてみようと思います。中を覗きこんでみましょう。それもまたきっと、僕たちが知らない世界の出来事です。

- Statement

What is theatre?

When I was asked, ”Shall we create theater?” The first phrase that came to mind was “something created by everyone. ” In 2020 during the pandemic, while we were working on Playtime at Bunkamura’s Theatre Cocoon, a cast member posed: “In the first place, what does ‘everyone’ actually mean?

For seventeen years, how have people connected with Za-Koenji? What has been sparked within these walls? How do we share and pass down the memories and moments that have piled up over time? I am in the middle of listening to stories from many people, but there is still so much I don't know. With the management structure shifting and the building’s renovation two years away, I am spending my days facing fundamental questions:

 What is a theater? What is theater?

"Now and not-now, here and not-here—I want to throw them all into the same place and pierce a hole through it. Let’s look inside. I am sure we will find events from a world we have yet to know."

現地にあるモノや日常的な素材、物理現象としての動力を用いたインスタレーションと、音と空間の関係性を基調としたパフォーマンスを展開。場所や制度に内在する構造に働きかける実践で知られる。

2000年前後より活動を開始。2000年代後半からは中東やヨーロッパのパフォーミング・アーツのフェスティバルで作品が紹介されるようになる。2009年《停電EXPO》（横浜新港ピア）に参加して以降、集団でのクリエーションにも取り組む。

2011年に関西で三つの個展を開催し、それぞれ異なる形式で回遊型の展覧会を展開。2014年、大阪・山王／飛田での《O才》において、出来事やディテールの連鎖によって全体像が立ち上がる構造が明確となり、以降のツアー型パフォーマンスへと接続される方法がかたちをとる。

その後も、水路や河川を舞台としたクルージング・パフォーマンス《入船》（2015–）、「劇場」そのものが主役となる舞台作品《INTERNSHIP》（国立アジア文化殿堂、光州、2016年／TPAM 2018、KAAT神奈川芸術劇場）、フィリピンの山岳地帯で制作され、KYOTO EXPERIMENT 2016を経てベルギーのKUNSTENFESTIVALDESARTS 2017でも発表された、中心点を持たない合唱プロジェクト《Composite》などを発表。

2020年には、Bunkamuraシアターコクーンで制作された《プレイタイム》に構成・演出として参加。2020–2022年には、ラジオで衛星電波を受信しながら別府の広域を回遊する《O滞》を開催。2023–2024年、ワタリウム美術館での《wait this is my favorite part／待ってここ好きなとこなんだ》では、ツアー・パフォーマンス型の展覧会として830回にわたり上演され、時間の経過とともに観客のあいだで評判が広がっていった。

《湿地》（東京都現代美術館、2025–2026年）では、呉夏枝との協働により、観客が空間を縦横に横断するインスタレーションが展開された。

Umeda produces installations that are inspired by and incorporate existing elements found in the environment and circumstances surrounding the exhibition space including its architectural structure.

Active since around 2000. He began presenting works at performing arts festivals across the Middle East and Europe in the late 2000s. After participating in “Blackout EXPO” (Shinko Pier, Yokohama) in 2009, he also started engaging in collective creation. 

In 2011, he held three solo exhibitions in Kansai, each featuring a different "circuit-style" format. And his “Age0, Breaker Project” in 2014 at Sanno (Osaka) and Hida, solidified their signature approach, where a structure of interconnected events and details reveals a larger whole, a method that would define their subsequent tour-style performances.

Following this, they released a series of diverse works, including New Fune (2015–), a cruising performance set on waterways and rivers, and INTERNSHIP (Asia Culture Center, Gwangju South Korea, 2016;TPAM 2018, KAAT Kanagawa Arts Theatre, Yokohama, Japan), a stage production where the theater itself acts as the protagonist. They also presented Composite (2017), a decentralized choral project created in the mountainous areas of the Philippines that traveled from to KYOTO EXPERIMENT 2016 and KUNSTEN FESTIVAL DES ARTS 2017 in Belgium.

In 2020, he participated in PLAYTIME/PRAYTIME  at Bunkamura Theatre Cocoon, credited for direction and concept. Between 2020 and 2022, He presented “0 Tai” an immersive project where participants explored a wide area of Beppu while receiving satellite signals via radio. In the 2023–2024 exhibition at The Watari Museum of Contemporary Art, wait this is my favorite part, it was performed 830 times as a tour-style exhibition, this tour-performance exhibition saw its acclaim grow organically as it resonated with a strong reputation among audiences over time.

In Wetland (Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, 2025–2026), he created in collaboration with OH Haji, an installation was presented that allowed audiences to traverse the space in all directions.
